What is Adapalene
Adapalene is a topical retinoid primarily used in the treatment of acne and is also used (off-label) to treat keratosis pilaris as well as other skin conditions. It is currently marketed by Galderma under the trade names Differin in some countries, and Adaferin in India. (Wikipedia)
Adapalene mechanism of action
Mechanistically, adapalene binds to specific retinoic acid nuclear receptors (gamma and beta) and retinoid X receptors but does not bind to the cytosolic receptor protein. Although the exact mode of action of adapalene is unknown, it is suggested that topical adapalene may normalize the differentiation of follicular epithelial cells resulting in decreased microcomedone formation.

What is Differin?
Differin is a topical medication (a medicine applied to the surface of the skin), similar to vitamin A. It helps the skin to be renewed. Differin is used to treat severe acne in people who are at least 12 years old. It works by reducing the formation of acne.
Avoid getting Differin in the eyes, in the crease of the nose, or on the lips. If it gets into any of these areas, rinse with water. Do not use this medicine on tanned, windy, dry, cracked, irritated, or broken skin. Also avoid using this drug in wounds or on eczema patches. Wait until these conditions are healed before using Differin.
Do not use skin products containing alpha-hydroxy or glycolic acid while you are also using Differin.
Avoid skin products that may cause irritation, such as harsh soaps, shampoos or skin cleansers, hair dye or permanent chemicals, hair removers or waxes or skin products with alcohol, spices, astringents or lime. Do not use other skin treatments unless your doctor has told you so.
Avoid exposure to sunlight or artificial UV rays (sunglasses or tanning beds). Differin can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight and sunburn. Use sunscreen (minimum SPF 15) and wear protective clothing if you must be in the sun.
