What is Epinephrine
The active sympathomimetic hormone from the adrenal medulla in most species. It stimulates both the alpha- and beta- adrenergic systems, causes systemic vasoconstriction and gastrointestinal relaxation, stimulates the heart, and dilates bronchi and cerebral vessels. It is used in asthma and cardiac failure and to delay absorption of local anesthetics.
Epinephrine mechanism of action
Epinephrine works via the stimulation of alpha and beta-1 adrenergic receptors, and a moderate activity at beta-2 adrenergic receptors.

What is EpiPen?
EpiPen is an injection containing adrenaline, a chemical that constricts blood vessels and opens the airways in the lungs. These effects can reverse serious low blood pressure, wheezing, severe itching, hives, and other symptoms of an allergic reaction.
EpiPen is used to treat severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis) to insect bites or bites, food, drugs and other allergens. Epinephrine is also used to treat exercise-induced anaphylaxis.
Epinephrine autoinjectors, such as the EpiPen and EpiPen Jr., may be on hand for self-injection by a person with a history of a severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis).
Seek emergency medical attention even after using an EpiPen to treat a severe allergic reaction. EpiPen effects may wear out after 10 or 20 minutes. You will need to receive further treatment and observation.
Before using the EpiPen a second time, tell your doctor if your first injection has a serious side effect, such as increased difficulty breathing or dangerously high blood pressure (severe headache, blurred vision, buzzing in the ears, anxiety, confusion, chest pain , shortness of breath, breathing, uneven heartbeat, attack).
