What is Salbutamol
Stimulates bronchi beta-receptors and has a strong and prolonged (for 5-8 hours) bronchodilator effect. In therapeutic doses, there is no significant change from the cardiovascular system. Ventolin is a selective 2-adrenomimetic. In therapeutic doses affects 2-adrenergic receptors of the bronchi, exerting a bronchodilating effect. The effect on 1-adrenergic receptors of the myocardium is minimal or completely absent. Ventolin inhibits the release of mast cells from leukotrienes, histamine, prostaglandin, and other biologically active substances. Suppresses the reactivity of the bronchi (early and late), increases the vital capacity of the lungs, reduces resistance in the airways, activates the functions of the ciliated epithelium, increases mucociliary clearance, increases the secretion of mucus, and has a pronounced bronchodilating effect. Also prevents bronchial spasm induced by an allergen. Ventolin is used to prevent or arrest bronchospasm. The drug affects the release of insulin and glycogenolysis, reduces the concentration of potassium in the blood plasma, has a hyperglycemic and lipolytic effect, can cause acidosis. In therapeutic doses, Ventolin does not have a negative effect on the cardiovascular system, does not cause an increase in blood pressure. Causes the expansion of the coronary arteries, has a positive chronotropic and inotropic effect.
You can not simultaneously apply Ventolin and non-selective beta-blockers (propranolol). When thyrotoxicosis increases tachycardia. It also enhances the effect of drugs that stimulate the central nervous system. Increases the likelihood of arrhythmia in the background of cardiac glycosides. Ventolin is not contraindicated in patients who take MAO inhibitors. Theophylline and other xanthines, when taken with Ventolin, increase the likelihood of tachyarrhythmias. At reception together with means for inhalation anesthesia and levodopa, there can be a ventricular arrhythmias. The intraocular pressure may increase with the simultaneous administration of Ventolin with anticholinergics. Glucocorticosteroids and diuretics can increase hypokalemia caused by the use of Ventolin.
Salbutamol mechanism of action
Inside as a bronchodilator (enlarging the lumen of the bronchi), adults and children over 12 years of age are prescribed 2-4 mg 3-4 times a day, if necessary, the dose can be increased to 8 mg 4 times a day. Children aged 6-12 years are prescribed 2 mg 3-4 times a day; 2-6 years – 1-2 mg 3 times a day. When inhaled, the dose of the drug depends on the dosage form. Preparations form aerosol prescribe for cupping (removing) bronchospasm (sharp narrowing of the lumen of the bronchi) or attack of bronchial asthma, once for adults, 0.1-0.2 mg, for children – 0.1 mg; for the prevention of asthma attacks and bronchospasm to adults – 0.2 mg 3-4 times a day, children – 0.1 mg 3-4 times a day; to prevent an asthma attack physical stress before exercise, adults are prescribed 0.2 mg, children – 0.1 mg. The drug in the form of a powder for inhalations is prescribed according to the same scheme, but at the same time, the doses are increased two times, respectively. The drug in the form of a solution for inhalation use is prescribed in a dose of 2.5 mg 3-4 times a day. If necessary, it is possible to increase the dose to 5 mg 3-4 times a day.
Ventolin Nebula. The drug is not intended for injection. It is administered by inhalation using a nebulizer with a mask, endotracheal or T-tube. When hypoventilation, there may be a risk of hypoxia, then the inhaled air can be enriched with oxygen. Ventolin Nebula is used without dilution, but if necessary, prolonged inhalation (more than ten minutes), the drug can be diluted with a sterile 0.9% solution of sodium chloride. The drug should be used in well-ventilated areas, as part of the drug during inhalation enters the environment. This is especially important in a hospital where several patients can use the nebulizer simultaneously. The initial dose of Ventolin for inhalation with a nebulizer is 2.5 milligrams, but if necessary, it can be increased to five milligrams. Inhalations can be administered up to four times a day. In the hospital, with severe airway obstruction, the dose for adult patients can be increased to 40 mg/day. The clinical efficacy of Ventolin in children under the age of eighteen months through nebulization has not been investigated.
Ventolin Evohaler. It is intended for use in children over the age of two years and in adults. Patients who are difficult to coordinate nebulization of the inhaler and inhalation should use a spacer. For babies, the Bebihaler device was developed. Adults. Coping an attack of bronchospasm: one hundred-two mcg (one or two inhalations). Prevention of attacks of bronchospasm, which are associated with physical activity or exposure to an allergen: two hundred micrograms (two inhalations) ten to fifteen minutes before the triggering factor. Long-term maintenance therapy: up to two hundred micrograms (two inhalations) up to four times a day. Children. Coping an attack of bronchospasm: one hundred-two mcg (one or two inhalations). Prevention of attacks of bronchospasm, which are associated with physical activity or the effect of an allergen: one hundred-two mcg (one or two inhalations) ten to fifteen minutes before the triggering factor. Long-term maintenance therapy: up to two hundred micrograms (two inhalations) up to four times a day.

Indication of Salbutamol
In bronchial asthma: prevention and relief of bronchospasm, as a component in the complex treatment of bronchial asthma (including asthmatic status). With the preventive purpose apply directly before contact with an allergen or before exercise stress. Ventolin is also used for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, which is accompanied by reversible bronchial obstruction.
Toxicity of Salbutamol
Possible hypersensitivity reactions: angioedema, bronchospasm, urticaria, hypotension right up to the collapse. When using the drug, it is possible to lower the level of potassium in the blood plasma. Also, headache, tremor, increased excitability and hyperactivity may occur. From the cardiovascular system often there is a tachycardia, sometimes there is a violation of the heart rhythm: supraventricular tachycardia, extrasystole, atrial fibrillation. Ventolin can cause peripheral vasodilation. When using Ventolin, paradoxical bronchospasm can occur, with a significant increase in dyspnea after inhalation. In such cases, the drug is canceled, the patient is selected alternative methods of treatment. With inhalation of Ventolin, irritation of the mucous membrane of the oral cavity and pharynx was sometimes observed. The drug can cause muscle cramps.
Hypersensitivity to any component of the drug. Contraindicated use of the drug in children up to one and a half years. With caution apply in patients with chronic heart failure, arterial hypertension, thyrotoxicosis, tachyarrhythmias, pheochromocytoma, as well as during pregnancy and lactation.
In pregnancy, the drug is prescribed only when the benefit to the mother exceeds any potential risk to the fetus. Strictly controlled clinical studies on the teratogenicity of Ventolin were not carried out. There are data on the birth of children with polydactyly in those mothers who used Ventolin during pregnancy, but there is no clear relationship between the onset of the pathology and the taking of the drug. Apply the drug during pregnancy, because the risk of placental hypoxemia for the fetus against uncontrolled bronchial asthma in the mother is much higher than the potential risk of taking the drug. However, use Ventolin with caution, since its administration can cause hyperglycemia and tachycardia in the mother and fetus, as well as the weakness of labor, lowering blood pressure and swelling of the lungs.

What is Ventolin?
Ventolin (albuterol) is a bronchodilator that relaxes muscles in the airways and increases the flow of air to the lungs. Ventolin HFA is used to treat or prevent bronchospasm in people with reversible obstructive airway disease. Albuterol inhalation is also used to prevent bronchospasm caused by exercise.
It is important to keep Ventolin on hand at all times. Get a prescription filled before you run out of medicine. Continue to use all your other medicines as prescribed by your doctor.
Talk to your doctor if any of your asthma medications do not seem to work, as well as treating or preventing attacks. If it seems to you that you need to use more of any of your medications within 24 hours, talk with your doctor. Increased need for medication may be an early sign of serious asthma.
Albuterol overdose can be fatal. Extreme heat may cause the Ventolin HFA canister to explode. Do not store your inhaler in your car on hot days. Do not throw an empty canister into an open flame.
