Amnesia is a condition in which a person is unable to recall recent and remote events. Amnesia is partial (the patient does not remember certain events) or complete. Amnesia can have a temporary character; in this case, the memories are restored in a chronological order gradually.
To the development of amnesia can lead to abuse of alcoholic beverages and tranquilizers. The cause of childhood amnesia (inability to recall events that occurred in childhood) is the underdevelopment of the corresponding structures of the brain.
The treatment of amnesia due to trauma, tumors or poisonings is based on the therapy of the underlying disease. Amnesia, caused by psychological factors, is treated with the use of hypnosis, psychotherapy and medications.
